Hey Peeps,

Been running this nano/pico fluval edge 12g with an Ai Prime for the past few months after shutting down my 60Cube. Still dialing in lighting but having issues with nutrient export despite weekly/bi-weekly WCs. Crazy algae growth all the time - left for a week and came back to a semi-planted reeftank with all the algae.

Looking to do a pico DIY skimmer job in the HOB Aquaclear (20?) That came with the tank. It's got chaeto that does OK and hosts pods (random live pod bombs into the DT which are awesome) but I need more vigorous export.

With DIY nano bottle skimmers and wood airstones, anyone ever try using a pint bottle of booze or something similar that's flatter & shorter, but would fit in a HOB AC20?

Factors I've considered:
-AC20 Isn't pulling enough gph to make a micro skimmer in the HOB effective anyway
-Find a way to insert the skimmer into the tank next to the HOB and hide it with a Monti
-I want to keep the HOB bc it's my only mechanical component, grows pods without trying, and i can pop chemipure/carbon in
-MP10 is hidden in the center against the back glass and shielded with rockwork
-Increase WC volume (currently 2G/week)
-Reduce # of corals (2 Ocellaris 2 peppermint shrimp & a bunch of snails) But a good amount of LPS and montis for this water volume

Hoenstly, wouldn't cost much to test over the next few months and could turn this into a pico skimmer thread for educational purposes and to share insights with newer reefers...but would appreciate any experiences the community's had here.

Thanks All,

Something round like the Beringer bottle would probably work ok, is it plastic? You will need to cut the bottom off.
