DIY np bacto balance

Has anyone ever come up with a diy version of bacto balance? I noticed it’s an oil base liquid and I have been doing some reading about algae oil extract as a carbon source. I noticed in one of the BRS videos that Lou said is was a long chain type of carbon source which I thing he meant to say long chain fatty acid. @Randy Holmes-Farley what do you think.
