Simple and easy 3/4 x12 Velcro straps from amazon and 3/4 lathe screws total cost around 14 bucks to make 5 holders

I can't tell from the pictures; are the lath screws just through the top of each velcro strap?

Agreed. Any kind of washer head screw will work. You could even staple the straps up and space the staples a bit apart to make it more stable.

That's how I am going to do mine.
 
I just take some tie-wraps and staple them to my board and then cinch the tie wraps down. Cost - pennies.
They aren't something that is usually moved once mounted and even so, a quick snip with some wire cutters
frees them. Old pic of the back of my canopy.

@Fin why did you have to make it simple and even cheaper? You took all the fun of wasting time and mental energy out of it.
