Bubble plate looks pretty good. Are you going to make that plate removable with one screw in the center or glue down the plate?

Your DIY Skimmer idea is pretty creative. Following along...
I am planning to make the plate removable. I am thinking 1/2in bulkhead in the center can be used to hold it in place. I want to keep everything accessible for cleaning.

I built a large skimmer. 60'' tall with a 30'' X 12'' reaction chamber. I also used the Bubble Blaster 10000. IME you will need atleast 2 of them to start with and an option to add another.
I would also place the bubble plate under where the bubble blasters enter. This will help keep the bubbles from entering the outlet pipe. The longer the bubbles are in the reaction chamber the better. The plates you see in most all the skimmers on the market direct the bubbles straight up. Much less contact time.
If you can direct the bubble blaster water in to create a cyclone type flow it will alow the bubbles to circulate in the chamber. More contact time.
Have a look on youtube at the Lifereef skimmer in action. Very turbulent action in the reaction chamber.

Considering I'm also building/planning a DIY 1000-2000 gallon tank.
