DIY protein skimmer

Hello, i am in the process of setting up a 225 gallon mixed reef tank with a 55 gallon sump, a 30 gallon fuge, and a 30 gallon quarantine tank. I am considering building my own skimmer because I like DIY projects. I particularly found the following skimmer interesting.

What are your thoughts on this? A recirculating type of skimmer looks pretty sound to me.
