DIY Radeon clone?

electrically complete. need to get my second fan and wire them up to the pi yeet and ad some plugs to the wires, and just clean everything up but I think this is going to be a pretty sweet light.

I think you should look into the chinese "puc" @dantimdad used, 2 of those in a 24inch steves led heat sink could be a solid option for a light. 2 600ma ldds and a 48v 75 watt psu would give you a simple "on/off" light for 80ish dollars. add 40-100 for controllablity.

specs say it takes a 1.6in "cob" the cobs I have in mind are 55x40mm 40mmis 1.57 so should fit.

Yes they would fit easily.

I am about to do another one with a little different spectrum and see if I like it even more.

So @Kampo can do the large array builds, I will do the small array ones.

trouble shooting a wierd issue. my royal blue aux channel on my light seems to cut out when the rest of the light is powerd on. but when I power down the other 6 channels it works fine...I wounder if my PSU is not up to snuff? but its odd one channel is effected. I have a 180watt psu for calculate 130 watts of leds....

10 450nm taking up channels 1 and 4
3 420nm 2 395nm channel 2
1 470nm 1 495nm 3 4000k neutrals Channel 3 (might swap one 4k for a deep red, unsure of the science behind deep red and lots of mixed info out there)

basically copying the ratios in a blueacro acrostar 20k pro half star with a bit more channel differentiation. mount it on a intel heatsink, toss a 70mm glass petry dish over it to act as a splash gaurd and build a mount for the heatsink. should look industrial but clean.

Sounds like weak output on the PSU. It may be rated that way, but under load, it's showing some weakness.

I have seen this before.

Try putting them on their own psu and see.

BTW, are you using CAT6 wire? If so, how long are the runs of wire from the drivers to the leds?

23 guage cat 6 and about 8 foot. was told that was fine for sub 1 amp runs.

on the steves led board it has 2 power inputs, does that mean I can use 2 psus?

steves led boards are seperate rails it say it right on its site. I wired up an extra 150watt 48v brick I had to one of the halfs. works like a charm now.

ok got it over my 20 and now that its working this is my first fully adjustable led spectrum setup. to my amazement i'm starting to buy into the whole you don't need white anymore argument. right now i'm REALLY liking the look of just Violet, Royal Blue, and Mint. nothing else running. its a bit "blue" but its whiter than I thought it would be.

this is a "natural spectrum, fairly balanced.

channels are in the 20-30percent range. this light would cook this tank full out

Thus happens when an led driver is not withon its voltage efficient voltage range, look up the data sheet for the driver. It will list its peak efficiency, which does have an effect on dimming. I usually see this when a channel is running above its efficiency range, the led driver doesnt know how to compensate.
