So I took an aqua clear hob and stuck a chaetomax on it, and I am curious as to peoples’ thoughts on if the light is too close to the algae. I understand that you can overlight macro but I don’t know what the limit is. Any thoughts?

Well, the theory was sound, but I did not account for the fact that my tank has 0 phosphates in it, I think because Xenia are sucking them up, and the chaeto melted. Got quite an alarming nitrate spike out of it too!

Back to the drawing board.

was point of the fuge to reduce excess nutrients or was there another purpose?

Thanks! I always have spare stuff sitting around and I was researching purchasable hob refugiums then realized...kind of just a compartment, a pump, and a light.
well done. I've also been thinking about converting my hob for a long time. I hope you keep updating this thread and let us know how it works out.
