I'm looking for some ideas on how to DIY a glass top for a 48"x18" custom reef aquarium. Preferably removable, as during the spring-fall, I keep a net over it. During the winter I travel frequently, and the house temp is a bit cooler than normal. I'd like to reduce evap during the winter and trap the heat.
I have radion rms mounts and 2 small cords that need to poke through the back (back strip area). I would love to have the front flip up or something so I don't have to move a massive hunk of glass to feed, clean, etc. I've considered building a removable euro-brace frame (not sure the material yet) and sit pre-made glass hinged pieces in it, but that's a last resort if I can do it cleaner.
Gas exchange is not an issue, as I have a large sump and a very efficient skimmer.
Any ideas would be great!
