If someone want give it a try i have adapted a roller mat to fit a standard nylon socks hole. It does work as i've just installed it, dunno yet how long it will take to clog since it is quite small. I guess it depends also from tank cleaniness.

It's just the prototipe, i am waiting on the motor in order to automatize with a float switch.

The roll is a redsea reefmat 50 roll cut in half (it comes out at 2 roll for 15€).

Is fully printable and keep together with ABS glue (even superglue should work fine.

Some implementation are on the way.

STL is available on thingiverse here:

Updated. In 4 days turning by hand 50cm of rolls have been used. I'm satisfied. I automatized it with a GJY370 3rpm 12v motor and a float switch. Will let it run for a couple of weeks, if working i will re-design it nicer with a encasing for motor in order to protect it from rust.

You may want to register a patent before someone else does.

Klir already did it, then "mine" is already a remix of someone else that did it but not for sock...i've just make it smaller, few tweak and added motor...Happy if someone improves it further
Very cool! Can you share the link to the STL? I'd like to give this a try
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6102758 The files are a mess, i will remake them , is a all in one so a bit of work already to detach every piece from main file. If you need a hint on how to assemble just ask without problem. I did use abs glue to put it all tofgether, superglue it may also work.

I'll reach out if it gets confusing. Thanks for sharing with the community!
