Hi, I would like to mix a Rubidium supplement. Could you please give an advice, if my calculation is right?
I will use RbCl. Rubidium is 70.7 % by weight. So 1 g of RbCl will boost the concentration by 707 mg/100 gallons or 1.87 mg/l. Is my math correct?
Thank you for helping me out.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

When I ran the math, I got 0.703 mg/100 gallons, so essentially the same, either we are both wrong or both correct (grin).

I've never supplemented rubidium, indeed, back when I used to mix my own salt, I stopped adding it altogether. I didn't think it had any essential biological activity....

My personal advice is that it's a waste of time, but the math looks right and is unlikely to hurt anything at normal seawater levels, making it a fine experiment.

Here's a long discussion thread:

Out of curiosity do you have any reason to think that rubidium supplementation is useful? I was surprised to learn that natural sea water has as much as 0.2 mg/L but as far as I can tell biologically rubidium is treated just like potassium.

Thank you all for your support. Yeah, the effect of Rubidium is not proven, but you never know. At least if it doesn't show any effect, it is not because my math was wrong. ;)

Happy reefing!

Something seems odd to me here. You are mixing systems right from the start (metric and English). I'm not good at this, but it seems to me that you should start with Liters instead of gallons, then convert.

You may not like his units of measure, but the math and conclusions are correct. :)
