Is this project too difficult or worth trying ? I was thinking of ordering the diy from Red Sea but there is mixed reviews. Anyone have their opinion?

The BRS kit uses the same stuff you can get yourself at HD. (meaning the frame and spline) The only difference is BRS carries the 1/4" netting, which is better for PAR than the 1/8" netting you get at HD or Lowe's. It's also clear - so bonus.
It's pretty basic stuff, easy to do. You can either order their kit or get the frame yourself locally and order the screen from BRS.

The hardware store screen kits work great and are super easy. Just need a hacksaw to cut the frame to size, then you pop in the corners to connect, lay out your mesh, and push the rubber tube thing in. You dont need to buy the roller, just use a screwdriver or something small to push it in. 20 minute job.

You can really tell the difference with the netting ? I’ll have to buy some online . Is there a video tutorial you followed or it’s pretty basic

Oh yeah, I purchased my netting separately on Amazon. Clear, aquarium netting. Good catch @CMMorgan!

You get a kit to make a window screen at Home depot. It comes with the corners, rails and spline. I used brown which looks fine with the black trim on the tank. You can get extra corners there too.

I use the netting from BRS.
There are videos on the net about making window screens.

That was smart! You probably paid less for it than I did, then. LOL I already had an order coming from BRS, so there was that. It's a big sheet, too! 36 x 84. I think I pad $12.

I just ordered the 1/4” netting on BRS. Now I need to see if Lowe’s or HD has the parts. Like I mentioned not sure what everything is needed but there has to be a diy video

Oh they actually have Kits assembled for this already at HD ? Cool

What parts did you use for the corners ? For e.g around the overflow box
Not sure what the corner insert connectors are called, but they will be with the rest of the screen supplies at the hardware store.

So do you guys always have your screen tops on ?

I am thinking now that I have 5 wrasses that I went from a rimless tank to a screen top !

Yep. Always on except when feeding.
