So, this past weekend, I threw together a DIY skimmer using the DIY MAME designs that became popular a while back.

I used a Powerade bottle, an old Whisper air pump, and an old gravel vac hose. So far, it's been producing a VERY wet skimmate - it produced 700 mL in the first night. After some adjusting, it's producing around 75 mL per day, and it's iced-tea colored. Smells kind of like yeast, too.

What do you guys think I could do to make this skimmer more efficient, and maybe make the skimmate less wet, besides raising the bottle higher out of the water?
