@prsnlty
What are your thoughts on this vs the original?

That will keep the top and bottom square but the knee braces keep the legs/body from racking and twisting go like this.... pardon my phone drawing.

Like the first picture you posted on the first page of the thread only a little further out. The ones on that picture are a little too close to the corners. However you can make them that close as long as you're going to skin at least three of those walls otherwise the walls that you are not going to skin need to have those knee braces further out.

Thanks for the advice, I'm still planning to use 10" knee braces throughout.

The original plan was to fully skim the 2 sides and back and have the front be a fully removable panel held in place with embedded magnets. Now I'm thinking of having the front and right panel as removable so I have more access to everything plus it'll make wiring the reefkeeper easier.

Sounds good, the more access you have the better [emoji3] Can't wait to see it completed!

If you're not comfortable simply using plywood, which would work fine in my opinion, and you want to "frame" your stand, you can do it using 1x4's. Here is an example of one I built for a 75g. Not a 2x4 in sight.

That is beautiful! Excellent craftsmanship.

I'd forgotten to update this thread as I finished.

I added the knee braces, attached the 2 sides.
Theb I filled in any gaps/wholes with putty and sanded it down.
After it was smooth as a babies behind I hit it with 4 coats of Killz primer before painting it with en expresso finish to match the other furniture.

Pictures of painting it.
Then instead of hinges attached magnets to each corner of the front and back panel to make it easily removable, drilled out 3/8 inch spot in the corner and put the magnet in then covered it in a coating of epoxy.
I decided I'd add a shelf for above the sump, Drilling it for the plumbing was fun.
