I am planning on building an oversized stand for my 40 breeder(36w x 18d x 16t) in order to have enough room for my 30 breeder sump/fragtank underneath. I am going to use the basic stand building plans that are on reefcentral and use 3/4in. plywood on top. The stand will be approx. 48w x 26d x 36t so the corners of the tank will not be directly on top of the 2x4 legs. My question is should I run a few extra 2x4's directly underneath the tank edges to help support the tank or should I just go without?

I (captain of over-engineering) would put some extra support under the tank edges. The 3/4" plywood you plan to use is pretty tough and might be enough, but I never like risking tanks, and the support would be hidden.

Do you think running 2- 2x4's lengthwise underneath the front and back edges of the tank would be best? I would really like to avoid a catastrophe by putting to much stress on the tank joints.
