DIY stand vs store bought stand

Hey guys! tanks are looking great! I know saltwater can rot wood quickly, I'm wondering what type of coating or sealant do you guys use on the inside to prevent rotting?

Hello tuweak. There's alot of products you can use. You can use resin expensive but does work at the end it's like glass coating water resistant.. you can also a rubberized coating that they used in truck beds once dry it's waterproof and scratch resistant. I also recommend kilz all white primer or rustolium latex version which I used on my 30 gallon quarantine tank. I posted pics of the buikd interior is red. Those options are good products to use. On my large tank I used stain let dry sealed and then waterproof with sealant.. dumped water on it and does not soak in but rolls off. Hope these help..

Build your own to how you like it and eze of access to work on it

Oh I see, The only paint I have right now is the one below. Do you think that will do the trick?

buying a stand already made is definitely gonna be cheaper, unless you know people that can make one for you cheap. I had one made to my liking and it ended up being about $400 more than the one that came from a store but i love it. I definitely don't regret it

I tend to disagree with your above statement.. I built a 180 gallon stand canopy and all did not even come close to 165 dollars and the stand is much more durable.. a stand for a 120 gallons is around $500 and it's crap from the store. That's my opinion any ways..

The stand above is about 180 dollars or so new.. this stand cost less and much better built is alot cheaper and nicer DIY

^^^I think he was referring to custom built stands..and not your basic 2x4 slap on some plywood and done with type work.

You can't beat building your own stand to meet your needs. I wanted to have a ledge for when I'm testing and spot feeding so I did such that. Plus the craftsman ship and quality of prebuild is like that of and ikea or wallmart furniture.
Here is what I did.

the question I have really is about where the canopy and the stand is "connected"/attached. can seem to find a plan that merges the two parts

That's ok to use bc of the mildew aspect of it and the temporary water resistant.. but if you did not open it go get the kilz..
is there a specific one I should get? Or does all Kilz interior primer sealer work?
Thank you so much for the help btw

I have always used the water based version. but i have heard that others use the OIL based version without issue
