DIY Stand

Splint us off but I can’t really use my arm still. Better than it was but it’s gonna take time. I think I can get back to work in earnest though.

I went to a boat shop looking for epoxy paint and holy cow they wanted $50 for a small can! I saw it on Amazon for $15. I also came across this at HD yesterday. Thoughts? Not sure if it would adhere to wood.

This is some good stuff there. The wood is porous enough the it should stick better than metal. Are you thinking of priming the wood first??

Oh the stand looks awesome by the way.

Kinda :) I was going to use Kilz paint to get a whitewashed look outside and then do poly over that. I wasn’t planning to prime the inside. That’s where this appliance paint would be used.

I picked up a white wash stain yesterday that looked interesting. Plan to try it on some scrap to see how the color comes out.

That is a good move to test it. I have seen other use the appliance finish and were successful.

Finally able to use both arms again. Had some time to do a little work today. I was reminded how bad I am at cutting sheet goods. Ha! I got a Kreg Accucut hoping it would help. It’s decent but man the instructions are AWFUL. I have some fixing to do but everything is pretty close.

Looks good from here!

I personally would prime, caulk, and paint the inside to protect from spills, it's good to have some kind of protective finish inside, you put some time into it, make it last.

Kreg makes cool stuff, but I was not crazy about the accucut, but I do this stuff daily for a living, I got a makita track saw, one of my best tool purchases ever, makes sheet cutting a snap, should you do enough of this stuff to make worth the investment.

The inside is going to get epoxy paint. I wish I could justify spending for a real track set :)

Primer is done on the inside. Picked up the epoxy paint today so that will go on next. After that I’ll install the electronics board and stain the outside. After that it goes upstairs!

Three coats of bright white appliance epoxy paint. You can see the brush strokes, but I’m not really worried about that since it is in the sump. The finish is rock hard. I tried to scratch it hard with my nail and didn’t make a mark.

Next up... stain!

Round one of stain on the back. Testing the color to make sure it comes out right. Gonna need another coat for sure. I want to see the grain but I want it mostly white. Piece of raw pine next to it for color reference.

Several coats later and one on top and I’m at the desired color :) Gonna let it dry tonight and do a first coat of poly tomorrow (I hope)

That turned out great!

Thanks! Did a dry fit on the electronics board earlier too. Gotta trim down the front and I’m not sure how I’m gonna box in the front and back yet. This isn’t in the right spot either.

Did the first coat of polyurethane on the top to see how it looks. Way too yellow. Gonna have to get polycryllic instead...

Its looking good, Liking the electronics board, is that free standing?......... I used Varathane urethane or something on my hardwood floors clear Diamond-Kote ,
