What are your plans for mechanical filtration? Filter socks, filter pads? or no filtration? And are you doing a refugium or reactor area or anything like that?

This is a very rudimentary sketchup, but it will hopefully get you going in the right direction :) this is how I would design it anyway ;)

So it doesn’t matter if the water is flowing straight into the skimmerpump

No matter there is personal preference in that. Also the middle baffle from the three at the end is your water level in the first two chambers in that design and dont forget to account for the level your skimmer will have to be set at or any space needed for a platform.

You do not need to separate the socks from the skimmers. However in crabs quick little sketch, one very important thing is the baffle I've highlighted in yellow will dictate the water height. So whatever height it is, will be the water height of the skimmer and fuge section.

Edit; @George Lopez beat me to It, all my fancy drawing slowed me down;Shifty

I Personally like fuge first to have a deeper fuge and so that the skimmer doesn't remove nutrients from the fuge then level control the skimmer and have it remove whats left in excess nutrients, but like I said personal preference

If you are using substrate in the fuge I think you may want to reverse the orientation of the bubble trap so the water goes over the first baffle, under the second then over the third.

If you do do this the first baffle in the bubble trap would be your constant water height before the return pump.

2 questions guys.. so I bought this skimmer used that’s why it’s massive it’s going on a 25 lagoon but because of that I have no idea what model or what the water level should be.. and second question I have no idea how I’d get that glass panel that the filtersocks sit in to stay there? Would silicone hold it?

Well it's a reef octopus;) how tall is It? And silicone will definitely hold the sock holders.

I’ve seen a couple people swear by having the return in the middle..

Now here’s a question can I have the skimmer next to the return pump and the water coming from the tank going straight into the sump. Since I am using a substrate.. I am using Miracle Mud

You don't have to use filter socks. They will filter out a lot of detritus, but they will also catch a lot of your pod population. So there are those that use them and those that don't. Some of the detritus will be returned to the tank, but it will mean a little more food for your corals. I think you will find nice looking tanks on each method. A powerhead in your skimmer section can keep much of the detritus suspended longer, allowing your skimmer to catch a little more of it and deposit more in your skimmer cup. Good luck with the new sump!

There are replacement pumps for these older Reef Octo skimmers . They are much smaller than the old "brick" sized pumps they came with. I can't remember who referred me to this place. Somebody here. I'd try googling replacement pump for Reef Octo skimmers. the size/make of this skimmer is just below the "Reef Octopus" logo. I can see it in the 1st pic.
