Hey Crew. I need a little help. I'm building a custom 40 gallon sump. I could not find 4mm plate glass, but I did find 3mm mirror. Can I use mirror as baffle?

I do not believe you can do this - due to possible metals/contamination from the mirror itself. Have you thought about using acrylic/Plastic?

I would generally agree..but we have to admit, the concern is truly baffling!!

There is mirror acrylic as well. I don’t know but I am thinking the same thing.
I was under the impression that the OP didn't 'want' a mirror - but that in his location - the only glass thickness he could get that he wanted (4 mm) - was mirrored. There should be acrylic available - either by order - or purchase in most locations (and multiple thicknesses)?

Did you people even read his five sentences? He's not looking for acrylic, or mirrored acrylic, or mirrored glass. He wants to know if it's ok to use a mirror as a baffle.

The glass companies I call are backed up two weeks due to covid and overwhelming need for glass . And not to mention expensive. I could buy a sump for the cost of 4MM glass. I don't have patience. As I look, I wonder why does the glass have to be so thick. What type of water pressure are we dealing with in a sump.

Try an Ace TrueValue. Mine does custom glass cutting.

It needs to be thick so you can work in it. Thinner will break too easily just with a bump

You could also check out Lifeguard Aquamesh. Some people use it for semi-permanent baffles. You can get it a Lowes or fish stores.

You would probably want to use the black course version.
