Dkh and Zoas

Hey peeps me and a buddy had a convo on what's your thoughts on your dkh in your Zoas tank?

What numbers do you keep stable?

Do you dose?

Do you rely on water changes?

I find Magnesium levels affect my zoas the most. I keep mine at 1400-1450

I did dosing for Zoanthids.com while it was in a retail location earlier this year. Having a system of nearly 1000 gallons packed mostly with zoas I'd dose alk every time I'd test. I never dosed mag and only dosed calcium 1-2 times per month. We'd do a 100 gallon water change once per month. We'd keep alk at 8.4 and zoas love it.

Yeah, I dose kh, calcium and iodine. my magnesium is always at 1400-1500, so i really get away from dosing it. I do WC every two weeks now. I have noticed that my z n p tend to love it when I don't do WC every week.

LOL. I ain't master, just lazy. If I could find a way to just do the WC once a year, I would do that too. I also run both biopellet and gfo reactor to keep the phosphate level low.

My alk dropped to 8 then 6.5 and they started looking back, closing up. I brought the alk back up today and they look much happier.

What are the effects of dkh swing from 7-9 on a regular basis, should it be stable or would the swings matter from what I know 2kh swings in one day are not a good thing.

Sensitive z n p will close up and melt under such dramatic swing within a day.
