So I have a new tank has been up for about 4 months. There is 3 fish total in it that’s it. I started the tank with all reef saver rock. Why would my dkh be dropping with nothing in the tank that’s use it? The rise is from me dosing ESV to get it back up

A main reason is the nitrogen cycle. Conversion of ammonia to nitrate consumes alkalinity. There can also be abiotic precipitation of calcium carbonate on pumps and heaters and sand.

Many other organisms also use it. people think corals, but many more do, including some microorganisms.

Never keep knew that my first thought was something was way off with the chemistry side of it. I appreciate you filling me in on what’s happening
