DKH is over 16!!!

Alkalinity is not logarithmic. A 50% water change will drop it by half.

But if there is a lot of unconsumed formate from the AFR overdose, alk may rise again as i t is metabolized.

Had this happen to a guy local to me earlier this year. I think I remember him saying he used vinegar to help get it down while he was mixing up water. Somehow nearly all of his livestock survived.

Vinegar is not a good plan. It temporarily reduces alk until it is metabolized, then it all comes back.

Okay, thanks for the info. My plan is to test and do smaller water changes twice a day until I start seeing my dKH around or below 11... and then allow it to drop naturally. Hopefully it all works.

Right now my torch corals are looking horrible. Really hoping they can turn it around.

Randy... do you think lighting matters at all? Right now I turned them off but I'm not sure if it helps.
You mean in relation to the high alk bothering corals ? I’m not sure.

No, sorry, I should have been more specific in my question and I'm probably wasting your time with my ignorance. haha. But from what I know about the All For Reef product... it uses calcium formate which bacteria breaks it down into calcium and carbonate. My thinking was if I turn off the lights... the bacteria may not process the calcium formate as fast. Hoping that it won't spike my alk and calcium levels higher and faster.

Whatever microorganisms use the formate, there’s no evidence they need light to do so.

The calcium is already loose in the system. There is no calcium formate present. It is just loose formate and loose calcium.

Any update?
