Ok today i was testing my water and everything is good except my kh is about 15. I mixed a fresh bucket of reef crystals to .026 and checked the kh and it was about 13. I would like it to be around 8. So is it the reef crystals that is causing the problem? Im thinking about ordering red sea pro salt to see if that helps the issue.

As far as I know RC mix out high on elements. If you still have it in a mixing barrel, you can add Muriatic Acid to bring down the level to normal range, let sit an hour, then add to the tank.

It is the reason I'm going back to Instant Ocean.

Ever since i switched from aquavitro to the reef crystals i dont seem to get coraline algae like i use to. I was told that i wont get coraline growth if my kh is that high. Is this true?

You will still get coralline growth with it at 15. The Coralline will actually help bring it down faster, the more that grows. Theres alot of factors in why coralline doesn't grow. Low ALK, low Cal, low MAG, high Nitrates, high Phosphates.

If you switch salts, I would go with the normal Red Sea. The Pro reads about 12 dkh. The non-pro Red Sea with be 7 to 8 dkh depending on the salinity you want.

I mix RC and get a reading of 11dKH but after it sits for a week or two it drops down to 9 or so. Everything else is spot on... oh yeah, I mix 90g at a time. My system changes out 1g a day automatically.

Don't use use Red Sea pro it's high in dkh like 12 when mixed, Red Sea is more in the 8-9 range we just switched to reg Red Sea
