So I have had saltwater tanks for over 20 year. Tried corals a few times over the years but it never worked out long term. A little over a year ago a friend gave me some more corals. The amount of information that is now out is amazing. I had so much success with the corals in my old tank I got a new one. I bought the BRS two part. It recommended a dkh of 9. I was running that. I had decided to change over to Triton. They recommend 8. I stopped dosing BRS and was waiting for my dkh to drop 8. With around 75 corals in my tank my dkh never got below 8.4. In the 4 months I was waiting Triton had all sorts of issues. I decided to go back to BRS two part and dose Red Sea trace elements. While researching Red Sea I noticed they recommended 11.5 dkh and that is what their reef pro salt mixes to. I brought my dkh up to 10. I seen a dramatic increase in growth. I had corals that had not grown much in 6 months that I could see noticeable growth daily. I have been slowly increase my dkh to 11.5 now. I see on the poll that most people run under 9.
So my question is am I missing something? Is there a long term problem with accelerated growth?
