I am excited to share the progress on the room I am remodeling for a new reefing adventure. Years ago I remodeled an old storage room under my porch for use as an aquarium room. Overall the project was very fun and proved to be a great retreat for reefing. At the time I didn't realize just how cold the room could get in Wisconsin winter months, energy usage was rough. A busy family life and other priorities ultimately led me to downsize and abandon the room.
8 years later much has changed and its time to jump back in. I will be converting the room from a cold space by insulating the walls with foam and bat insulation, and installing a spot ERV to help move air around the basement. The finished room will be 8' x 17'.
I have a few requirements for the room, I want to have at least a 180g tank for a display, a separate frag system, a quarantine area, a sink, a coral fragging station, water change station, and plenty of room to store supplies. I've done a number of sketches and scaled drawings, and feel pretty confident that I can squeeze everything in and still be pretty comfortable working in the space.
This project will take a while, I really want to make sure and do the construction right. I'm gonna make sure before the walls are closed up that blocking for items in the room is in place and that everything is trimmed and finished.
A little bit of the current chaos...
