I just picked up a coral beauty angel fish about 10 minutes ago. I had one before but it died and I wasn’t home to the reason and I don’t really know why. Anyway I have a chocolate tang that is kinda of thwiping at him with his tail and he is smaller should I add him in. My Lfs is closed I can’t take them back for now

Also there’s a good amount of rock work but I don’t know if it’s gonna be enough to fully get away from the other fish.

Can you put the coral beauty in an acclimation box?

Place either the tang or angel to sump unless you have acclimation box- Place the tang in there for 2-3 days allowing angel to get familiar with tank
You can call LFS in the morning if you feel it wont work. either spot you place fish will make it easy to catch it

It’s good to have an acclimation box available when adding new fish. Also good to add them with lights out and Mayb rearranging the rock work to disrupt the territorial issue. Some people add a mirror. also no Qt. Did they Qt the fish for u. Just a
Bad practice to add to DT fish right from the LFS. Caught up w me after 20 years and velvet killed half my tank. Just good to have plan b ready when things deviate.

I herd with aggressive tangs you could put a mirror on one side of the aquarium and maybe the aggressive tang will be busy with its pun image for awhile.
or possibly cover the aquarium and go lights out pitch black for the night. Maybe they will settle down.

The best is to separate them. I always have some egg crate ceiling panels cut to various sizes to use depending on the size of the fish and the tank.
That will help those sensitive new fish to settle down, learn to eat. I managed to add tangs into my system without any fight. Photos are my borbounis from reefbeauties, had them for a week and trained to eat flakes now.

Haha the thing is I don’t have a sump. I’m just going to add him in and see what happens. Do you agree?

Put a huge mirror on the tank.

You probably want to buy an acclimation box or make one as to not potentially kill fish.

YALL! I already have him. I don’t have any of that on hand and it’s almost 9pm for me. What do I do. I’m in a tight situation right now. Can I leave him in the bag over night?

I mean I got him in the first place because last time he was fine but the tang was was only in there for 2 day so he could’ve killed him I don’t know but if he didn’t then they were fine for 2 days

Actually the mirror trick works really well...

...if you hold up a mirror at the LFS cash register and look into the mirror asking yourself if you are making an educated purchase

It doesn't seem like there are many options at this point other than putting it in the tank. LFS closed, no Qt tank, sump or acclimation box. Solid advice already provided above about some options to consider when putting in the tank.

should be fine... throw him in a a plastic bin with a powerhead and a heater give him back to the LFS. Like zoa what mentioned gracefully, make an educated decision before purchases. It saves you the pain your having tonight...

Personally I believe that if you black out the tank for a day, you the aggression should subside. Turning of the lights and laying towels over the glass so that no light can penetrate through.
