Hey,

I saw a chalice in real life for the first time, and it is a Hollywood stunner. It is an almost, paper thin plate. I bought it out of the bargain bin. :). Anyways, this made me look up whether chalices normally plate or not. I can't find any solid info. Anyone wanna help a newb out?

The stunner (and a blue one thats out there in the same family) is the only one that plates like a monti cap with several layers. All other chalices encrust. After it encrusts to the edge of a rock, it'll kind of grow over but never 'plate' if that's what you're asking.

I’ve got a space invader chalice that is literally platting into a frisbee

Stunners can get very thick, Ive got a large dinner plate colony, only the newest 1" of growth is thin. No they do not all plate.

Watch the sweepers on that Hollywood stunner, they can get pretty long and pack a punch.

Other than that it's a fast growing coral and you'll enjoy it :).

Several chalices will plate rather than encrust. Some even actually form a chalice like shape.

Some of my chalice.
