Do all filter rollers need to have the return plumbed directly to it?

I haven't paid much attention to filter rollers. Now that I'm planning my next build I've been looking into them and think they're pretty interesting. I have a couple questions.

I'm going to be setting up a display and a frag tank that are both draining to the same sump. Both will be bean-animal. So I'm curious how 4 drains would be plumbed into a filter roller. Or perhaps just the main drain, from the DT, is all I need?

Are there rollers that can be in a chamber, where the water can flow through it without even needing a direct line plumbed to it? (after the overflow, similar to a rack of socks you see in most sumps) I was watching a video from Reefdudes and he made some random comment about someone from Ecotech doing something like this... but I couldn't find more specific info.

Thoughts?

Klir has some that go where your sock would normally go. So they don’t have to be plumbed, instead they’re placed.

I have a bubble magus filter roller and modified it to take 2 drain inputs. I posted a thread on it if you search for it. You don’t really need to plumb the bean animal emergency drains into the filter roller.

Yeah id definitely like to see that. And i was talking about the main and secondary from 2 tanks (so 4)

I like keeping the emergency above the water for noise as a little alarm.

Honestly i think just the main drains will do fine though.... i don't even run filter socks the vast majority of the time so any mechanical filter addition will be great.
