Yes, very commonly, it is confused with an injury/bacterial infection. In fact, until a few years ago it was almost always misdintfied by home aquarists as that. Using a microscope, you can see the protozoans and identify it that way, Here is my article on the topic:

Yes, very commonly, it is confused with an injury/bacterial infection. In fact, until a few years ago it was almost always misdintfied by home aquarists as that. Using a microscope, you can see the protozoans and identify it that way, Here is my article on the topic:

Thanks for the response. Sorry for my delay, I’m at work now.

So, abruptly the other morning I discovered my tang, a butterfly, and a swallowtail angel all died. The day prior I did a tank vacuuming. I noticed the remainder of the day the tang seemed spooked, and was hiding. It’s not uncommon for that guy to have hid for a day following maintenance, so I wasn’t concerned. The following morning i discovered the dead fish. The tang and butterfly appeared almost like they had brook or velvet, and the angel looked more like uronema with a red lesion on one side but not white markings at all. Unfortunately I didn’t have any time for pictures, because I had enough time to remove them and immediately leave for work. I got the others into QT, and have since lost my other angel, a wrasse and a tailspot Blenny. Again, noticed the following morning. My longnose seems unaffected by anything and is swimming lazily in QT. The additional fish lost in the second round of deaths didn’t appear to have any signs of infection at all. No white spots, no fin rot, no red lesions…my parameters are good. I’m trying to figure out what they had…stumped. I haven’t changed anything. Only thing I did was the vacuuming, and I found a house fly got in at some point after or during the maintenance and was circling the DT. I’m not quite sure what to make of any of the differing signs of disease.
