Thanks for the response. Sorry for my delay, I’m at work now.Yes, very commonly, it is confused with an injury/bacterial infection. In fact, until a few years ago it was almost always misdintfied by home aquarists as that. Using a microscope, you can see the protozoans and identify it that way, Here is my article on the topic:
