I know this topic is not really related to fish as much as it’s related to cats.

However, I recently adopted a cat about 2 months ago, and I was really excited for the cat to watch the reef tank, but he shows no interest. I’ve even picked him up and held him at a distance to the tank and still no interest.
I will state that my tank is very blue. Around 18k

A couple of my cats had a tiny bit of interest as kittens but I've never had an adult cat show any interest in aquariums. I've also had a fair bit of foster kittens and while a couple liked jumping in the sump none had any interest in the display itself.

Some people's cats love it, but I'd say cats appreciation for reefs is probably in line with humans. Maybe if you have big fish swimming they will be more interested.

From what I've read cats shouldn't have any issue seeing blue wavelengths. My tank is only slightly blue and as far as my 3 cats go, I've had mixed results.

Rebel (2yr old Russian Blue mix) - Likes to watch the fish get fed, but I think she is more interested in the food blowing around the tank than the fish. She also tries to steel pellet food from the cabinet.

Owen (6yr old Egyptian Mau Mix) - Likes to stick his head in the sump area whenever the door is open. The tank is right next to his favorite spot to lay on the couch, but I rarely see him actively watching the fish.

Mercy (10yr old Shorthair Calico) - Only shows interest by sleeping on the canopy and begging for food as people walk by.

I believe cats can see in the blue spectrum just fine. Cats are highly "variable" - not every cat is going to be interested in the same things. Had 2 cats at one time, one would get fascinated and "chase" moving images on the TV while the other never cared.

For some reason though, I've never seen a cat that didn't target in on moving string. Maybe add an eel to your tank? :D

My cat has always loved watching the tank her whole life, +7 years now.

Interesting that I found this thread.
We have 3 cats. Two of them show ZERO interest in the tank. Our youngest one (7 years old) will lay on the floor and stare up at the tank every morning and every evening. Only when it’s under full blues! It’s like he is intrigued by the blue light.

I have a mixed blue point Siamese and he definitely likes the tank. He sits next to it and watches it as well but love the fact that he likes to get in my lap when I’m sitting in front of it.

his interest definitely peaked once I added my tang as it’s the largest fish in the tank.

have to see if his interest stays the same as he

My cats just like to chew on my dosing tubes. I have to replace tubing a couple times a year lol. Other than that, my cat used to try and catch the fish through the glass. I think after a couple months he realized that he would never catch one and lost interest.
