Do Ceramic Blocks Need Periodic Cleaning?

I have Marine Pure Blocks in my sump. The top most block has corraline and algae growth on it's surface. The surface face of the blocks are exposed to the refugium light, and is semi exposed to air.

I'm wondering, if other aquarists who utilize ceramic blocks, clean them at some interval.

i just dip them in a bucket of tank water and shake off any detritus or debris.
