Thinking corals can tolerate a very little undetected ammonia. Perhaps they will consume it and turn it into nitrates. Thanks all

Certain corals will absorb nitrates to grow (Xenia comes to mind here). Beneficial bacteria is what converts ammonia into nitrates.

Mostly the algae (Symbiodinium) but it also may be used in amino acid synthesis by the host cell.
