So i checked one of my online stores and saw they had flame wrasses available for pre order. The thing is that the males run for $400 and the females for $150 which is a huge difference. The thing is ive heard from many wrasse experts that they always turn to males. Is that true or is it only sometimes?

Yes with flame wrasses they always go male.
Thanks for saving me $250 lol from your experience how long does it usually take them to transition with other wrasse species in the tank?

Mine happened pretty quick maybe 2 months before colors started to develop then another month to full color

Always is really a hard word to guarantee but they usually do. Mine transitioned from female to terminal male in about 5 months. This video is after transformation started. Notice the yellow on the tail appearing.

And about 6 months later.

So its not guaranteed but do to it being with other male species of male wrasses it has a high likelihood? I have a splendid pintail fairy and a melanarus wrasse i heard those where compatible.

i'd go with the female. are you talking about tsm? i ordered a small female from them on their last order and seriously the females themselves are stunning the reddish orange thing they have going on is awesome. and then i'll probably see the transition which will be cool. from what i understand with the fairy wrasses the transition is almost guaranteed, just on an unknown timeline

Awesome to know, and yes i ordered it from tsm, i heard very good stuff about them and their QT procedure is top notch ( even though i still QT my fish )

i was wanting to go with the smaller QT places, but tsm had the flame wrasse and multicolor in stock so i went with it and am very pleased. i did not do an extra observation myself (smart of you to do so as you never know) so they went right in the tank. they ship with a massive amount of water. all i got from them was the flame wrasse and a small multicolor angel, and 5 nassarius snails and the package weighed like 13 pounds because they shipped the two fish in massive amounts of water.

then they even called me on the day of the order to make sure everything went smoothly, so that was cool. they're currently tempting me with the radiant wrasses.. but even pre-qt'ed ordering one of those and having it shipped scares me

I was looking at that radiant wrasse, i hate that i missed out on some jeweled leopard wrasses they had a while ago.

Right. No guarantee but highly likely. I've never had a female fairy or flasher that did not transition. The longest it took was a little over a year but usually half that time.
