Do fish try to avoid when they have ich or velvet?

They start flashing, having muted colors, swim slower, are more reclusive and generally lose their appetite (at least with velvet).

Velvet can be really nasty. What's truly scary is how fast it takes hold, spreads and the high mortality rate.

So for either ich or velvet they don't try to avoid light?

Velvet does. At least that’s what I’ve read.
