Do Frag Tanks Need to be Cycled

About to set up my frag tank and was just wondering if I need to cycle it first.

when i set up my frag tank i used some water from my DT and some new water
and placed all my zoas in

every water change i take about 5g from my dt and place it in my frag tank

i haven't lost anything

idk if its the right way to do it but thats what i did

I used rock and half water from my established tank half new. Got a small bloom and a week later all clear. I had coral in the tank same day though and they are doing fine.
