Do hawkfish or 6 line wrasse eat inverts?

I've never had either. Dont know why. Nut I feel like I remember reading somewhere that one or the other prey on small inverts (hermits, shrimp, snails)

It is a definite possibility on both counts. Both are predatory, but... They are both pretty small.
I have had both with cleaner, coral banded shrimps and the like in the past without much trouble at all.
Things like blue or Scarlett legged hermits might be a different issue because if size

My falco hawkfish never touched my shrimp, zoa's he thought were food and would grab them and thrash them around

I hear over and over again hawkfish is a huge risk. As some have experienced, you might get lucky and find one that doesn't. Personally I would not take the risk. For a 6 line, the risk is much less but know it might go haywire and eat something if the mood strikes. I have a melanarius wrasse and I am pretty sure he ate my cleaner shrimp. One day he just simply vanished without a trace. However, I have no evidence of wrongdoing. Bought a blood (fire) shrimp 2 mos ago and he is still alive. We will see.

IMO, if you keep a 6 line fat and happy, you reduce your risk.

Wonder if long nose are a greater risk than say a flame hawk.

I have a flame hawk in a 32 gal biocube with snails, hermits and peppermint shrimp, have never observed any issues. Same with my long-nose hawkfish in my 180gal.

For both of them.. the smaller the shrimp, the greater the risk of being preyed upon... 6 line is actually less risk than Melanarus or a Christmas wrasse. Yellow Coris seems OK with any I have had.. so far.
