Do i accept coral from a tank with bubble algae?

ive recently been offered a lot of corals and fish from a friend that is shutting down hes tank, im just worried about taking them as he has bubble algae in it. so I just wondered if it would be ok to take them out of hes and into mine without catching anything.

So there's no chance that I might spread what ever algae problems he has inches tank by doing this, he's literary closing down he's tank because he can't get rid of the algae

6 months ago I would have said NO WAY! But after years of bubble algae, Vibrant worked wonders. I have none left in my tank. So yes, I would take them but plan to run something like Vibrant because it will spread.

Vibrant is the answer. The best option would be to QT the coral, but it works well in the DT as well.

Get some coral dip, water might not be enough.

Agree with what everyone said. However like most will tell you there’s no way to ever 100% guarantee the prevention of pests coming into the tank. So yes take the corals and yes dip them to attempt prevention but stuff happens and there’s some good solutions out there if you were to get the bubble algae.

Yea, you're fine. I had a friend break down his tank and he gave me all his coral. There was some bubble algae. Before I put them in my tank I went over them carefully with tweezers and removed any bubbles I could find.

I would also mention that at some point you'll also end up getting frags from even the best of LFS that may have bubble algae on them.

Sounds like a emerald crabs heaven. Drop a few crabs in there and watch them go !

In terms of nuisances that I worry about getting passed along through frags, bubble algae is very far down the list. I would make sure to follow others advice for dipping and cleaning the frags to the best of your ability but I wouldn't reject any coral due to fear of it.

Hello,

A possible solution is where the Bubble algae is and or other alage is located. If it’s at the bottom, I would dip it and or cut the bottom off (if there is a plug etc). I have quiet a few tangs and they make short work of algae but I don’t wanna introduce it to my tank. I could care less that it has encrusted. After you cut it, maybe use reef glue around the base, it can help prevent spread and possible rtn from the base.

Qt them as others have said. It’s not as easy as just saying “run vibrant” or “add emeralds” as I’ve done both. Nothing guarantees emeralds will touch bubble algae. Vibrant takes time to work and can lower nutrients. Peppermints aren’t guaranteed to work either.

I have bubble that mde it through and now I’m paying the price. My tunze grill fills up with loose bubbles about every 4 days and has to be cleaned. Not fun.

Ye I'm still unsure I don't know if it's worth the hassle for the sake of a tri coloured angel, a bubble tip, Kenya tree and a few mushrooms but then if parameters are ok surely it shouldn't spread
