I have a custom acrylic ATO reservoir that I fill to 30g and add kawlkwasser. I was wondering if I have to completely clean out the ATO reservoir every time it's empty or can i continue to add rodi and kawlkwasser?

I'm not being lazy but to get to the ATO reservoir is a PAIN [emoji17]

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Dennis

Not lazy! You're just realizing that the ATO is in a bad spot...and since you're only limited by the length of tubing you use, why not consider relocation the ATO reservoir? It's placement is only going to seem more and more inconvenient as the months roll by. Another option is to use a reactor like the Tunze 5074 to dispense the kalk....at least then the reactor is removable for maintenance. (This is what I use.)

FWIW, the crud at the bottom would be harmless in terms of chemistry....either being leftover kalk or mostly-inert precipitants.

http://www.reefscapes.net/articles/breefcase/kalkwasser.html - Check out this kalkwasser tutorial. It covers everything - from mixing, to precipitation, et al. Even covers using vinegar with your kalk. (BTW, that link is from my "favorite links" Sticky at the top of the Reef Chemistry forum.)

You are the man Matt - thank you for the quick reply.

I'll ask the wife if I can tear down it's current location and setup in a more accessible area :)

My biggest concern was the left over crud at the bottom messing with the chemistry when I refill with RODI and Kawlkwasser. I am in the market for Kawlk reactor so I should plan around that.

Again Thank you for the help.
