Do I clean a used sump?

purchased a used sump today, and it had a deep sand refugium still in it, and a ton of dead copepods. This may be a dumb question, but do I clean it out? Or use the dsb?

I wouldn't use any DSB that had been taken off a system. It's best to remove and discard the sand and clean the sump before use.

At this point it is probably an ammonia pool. Clean it up and start fresh if you want to do another dsb.
