Only a month and a half in...My first tank, have dumped a good amount of $ for proper initial start up and future maintenance. Hoping to stop this now if it can turn into a big problem. It looks to mostly be only on the glass. I ordered Reef Flux and a red sea mag test kit. Do i just wait or treat??? I have one decent picture. I'm pretty positive it is, they have fern like tips, it's hard as hell to scrub off the walls and only comes off to float around and reattach it self. I went lights off today, after work probably do a water change with no flow, and try to suck most of it out....any suggestions welcomed. Thanks

Bryopsis is one of the easiest algaes to treat. Fluconazole will take it out in 2 to 3 weeks, normally with a single treatment.

Or you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

Reef Flux that I ordered should be the fluconazole as to what I read. Should be here Friday, guess I'll go lights off until?

No, I would leave the lights on. And when you start using the Fluco, you will see the highest light areas die off first.

Although... I'm not sure that what I am seeing there is Bryopsis.

bryopsis is what I meant. And from what I've seen of people catching it early it looks just like mine stuck to the tank and all

Its not a great picture, but they look more like hydroids to me.

Let's get some more eyes on this. #reefsquad

Can you magnify the image of one of those spots on the glass? It really does look like hydroids. My tank had a few of them as well when it first cycled...they tend to go away on their own as the tank matures. I'm about 4-5 months post cycle and I don't see them any longer. Plus, the hydroid looks kind of "fan-like" as well which could be confused with bryopsis. Have you added anything to the tank already...or used live rock to cycle the tank? If not, I would be really surprised to see bryopsis.

Yeah I used live rock from a guy who farms them out of the keys, there's all kinds of life on them. So I'm cautious, I don't see anything like this tho, and yes I do have a few frags. On the hydroids did they stick to the glass where u can't get some of them to even scrub off?

A Google search Bryopsis on glass pull up these photos that are pretty much identical. Still a possibility it's something else?

reef flux works, I am going through bryopsis right now. i posted two videos on my build thread if you want to see how it looks after just one week

I feel better now, that does look like Bryopsis to me.

So now we got that, do I just do water changes? Do i medicate already?

I would medicate. Bryopsis is a tough algae to get rid of by any other method. Easy to get rid of with Fluco.

I'm going to turn off all flow and scrub them basterds down and do a 30% water change. See if I can get a bulk out

That should help reduce the other issues you run into when you have algae dying off in your system and releasing nutrients.

I treated my bryopsis with reef Flux and it disappeared but then came back worse than before not even 3 months later, without really adding anything new.
I'm currently trying hydrogen peroxide spot treatments, expanding my cuc, and might do a 2nd fluconazole treatment. I followed all treatment directions - removed skimmer cup, carbon, phosguard, purigen, used 10 capsules for a 90g w/ about 15g sump and 90lbs of rock. Left it in for 3 weeks I believe before I needed to do a water change.

I’ve had issues in the past with Bryopsis, though in the tank that I have running now, I’ve noticed that keeping my Magnesium levels high (1600 range) and having an awesome fuge has made for a bryopsis free environment.
