I have a 10 gallon saltwater tank with a fish and hopes to put coral in it soon, I have a 256 gph circulation pump running with a 35 gallon filter. Is that too much flow? And if so, what would good flow be for the tank size? Is the filter enough or should I buy a smaller pump?

Salt Tank, Filter Pump suggested = 5x tank volume per hour turnover.
Power head/wave-maker suggested at 30x to 50x tank volume per hour flow.

10g x 5 = 50gph for filter pump.
10g x30 = 300gph Minimum for water flow in tank
10g x 50 = 500gph Max flow for water in tank

Happy Reefing.

You are probably OK with what you have. 256 gph is not too much flow for a 10 gal tank.
