Do I have to go through the ugly phase again

I was recently forced to upgrade my 20 long to a 29. The 21 was just finishing up it's ugly phase. I'm wondering if because of the bigger water volume and the fact that I added a few pounds of dry rock (no more than 10 pounds) if I'd have to see that again?

Yep. You'll go through the uglies again but not the nitrogen cycle.
I had the same issue with my 40 when I upgraded from a 20

Dang that sucks because in about another month I'll be moving into a 40B. So that means I'll have to go through it again!!! Argggghhhh!!!!!!!

Rock. But you might not. You now have a somewhat established bio filter. It could be just fine if you didn't stir up a lot of funk.

Well I moved the sand bed but that's pretty much new. So it couldn't be too much funk.

In my case, it was the tank itself. The 20 gal I moved over had been up for about 8 months. Live rock and all that.
