I bought this 55 gallon fish tank used from somebody and it came with all this rock. All the saltwater fish stores that I have been to only have one or two rocks in the tank. Do I have too much?

I think the scape looks nice! If you are going for corals think about what you want to keep and if it fits in your aquascape. If not then modify it.

Rocks provide nice surface for good bacteria. If you use less rock in a tank some people keep some extra biomedia bricks or spare rocks in the sump to compensate for the low amount of rock in the tank.

Just go with what suits you. After all you are the one that needs to be happy with it.

Agreed with the comments above. Depends on what you'd like to keep and your choice of what you like :) Having multiple caves or hiding spots are great for fish while building the rock up higher or outwards may suit your needs if you'd like to grow sps or other high light loving corals. Best of luck either way :)

I like a lot of rock, but not necessarily all in the display. I use what I want for aesthetics and I keep a lot in the sump too.

Scape looks nice! Plenty of biological filtration also which is a good thing. just make sure you have enough flow to eliminate dead spots. Maybe add a little wave maker in the back

Thanks! I already have a wave maker hidden behind the rocks.

Saltwater fish stores are trying to sell fish focused on optimal viewing and maintenance, not create long term comfortable habitats for their pet.
