My 90 gallon has a Vortech MP40 with a battery backup. I have a generator for long term power outages. I am trying to decide if I also need a UPS for short term power outages, to run my return pump, heater and led lights, all running off an Apex. My main concern is if I am not at home when power goes out.

I'd recommend getting a UPS for just the return pump. Don't worry about lights, you just want the UPS to maintain the critical life systems which is mostly flow.

I have a UPS and the only thing I run on it is my DC return pump. I get about an hour runtime out of it.

I would assume that company has an updated model by now, but I use there stuff, both UPS and Power Strips.

I have an UPS running my APEX for short term and a generator for long term. There will always be that one time you wished you had one. Better safe than sorry...
