Do I need sand in acclimation box for carpenter's flasher wrasse?

I always thought wrasses needed sand. It is in both display tanks and in the QT I put a small plastic container for the resident melanurus. He swished most of it out over time that the other morning I saw him sleeping in the container belly up so he could feel the sand on his back. I guess it's time to refill the container.

Flashers and fairies don't sleep in the sand. Halichoeres and leopards do. He will be fine with just the PVC like m88 said.

I've QT'd three different Halichoeres for 8 weeks each without sand. They all adapted and did well.

what salthog said....carpenters don't need sand to sleep

It's a matter of genus. Paracheilinus sleep in the rock-work in a mucus cocoon.

Genera which require sand: Anampses, Coris, Halichoeres, Macropharyngodon, Pseudojuloides, & Thalassoma.
