D i need to cycle a frag tank?
The tank will have no sand, no fish, and no liverock.
I plan to have this tank grow ALL corals.

Thanks,
Reed

Yes, you would need to cycle and you would need some sort of filter on the tank so there is somthing to get bacteria growing on.

How big is the tank? If its under 30 gallons I suggest that you get a small HOB filter and seed the tank that way.

Well the tank is 25 gallons i bought a marineland power filter biowheel 200

OK, good, use that and then seed the filter with a biological additive of some sort.

The biowheel would work, but 15 or so pounds of live rock would work better. You could just add the cured
live rock and it should be ready for coral in just a few weeks. You definitely don't want nitrites or ammonia if you are trying to grow corals.

Why do you ask? was it because of a show you saw yesterday? LOL

Hey Just kiddin... I'm just playin

A frag tank should be treated the same as any other tank!! If you want to have nice looking frags the water quality needs to be the same or similar to the display or mother tank! So whatever you did to keep the tank you will be fragging from you should do to the frag tank! That includes cycling, water changes, testing params, in the same manner you should have also some sort of biological filtration i.e. LR or sand... another option is plumbing it directly to you main tank that way you don't have to worry about keeping similar parameters in different setups!

..:misdoubt:......:embarrassed:... hehe...

you can do a water change on your tank and then use that water for your frag tank.... maybe take one or two chunks of LR also to introduce more microfauna and that way you can speed things up greatly.
