Do I need to dose liquid phosphate remover into a filter sock or can I just dose it infront of my skimmer? I don't run filter socks on my system and don't want to buy new ones unless it's necessary for this.
Do I need to dose lanthanum chloride into a filter sock?

Some small number of folks have had some issues with lanthanum. Might be coincidence, might be soluble lanthanum, and might be lanthanum particulates.
Removing them removes one possible issue.
I'm not personally convinced lanthanum is the best way to go except on rock outside the tank, but some folks use it OK and some of those do not use particulate filters.

I would dose into my skimmer or filter socks. When I dosed it into my skimmer you could see white chunks forming in the cup rather quickly.
If you have tangs (Zebramosa), I would dose half the recommended amount. I lost a big fat and healthy yellow tang with an hour of dosing that stuff. Seen a few other posts with similar results.

I vote filter sock. Skimmer will not remove all the particles. Why take a risk. I do use LC in my tank and do not see any issues with the fish, but it gets dripped into a 5 micron sock. I have a small pump that pumps water from one side of my sump into the sock to keep the water flowing quite a bit.
