Do I need to dose on anything?

Tested my water yesterday and here are results:

alkaline: 10.7
Ph: 8.15
Calcium: 440
Magnesium: 1410

do I need to dose any of these? I have the redsea reefer a,b,c

There are many variables to determine if dosing is needed. How old is the tank, how much coral, etc... basically when you get to the point where weekly water changes do not suffice to keep main things like alk, cal and magnesium stabil then dosing should be considered.

Tank is over a month old.

tank is 160 litres and I do change 15litres every two weeks. Last week I changed the carbon and cleaned the filter and added some bacteria balls to the filter.

Your certainly not low on anything. What’s the Alkalinity of fresh made saltwater?

The easiest way to determine if you need to dose anything is to simply check your Alkalinity once a week.

Alkalinity is a good indicator as it drops the fastest.

When you see Alkalinity dropping faster than water changes can replenish back to your baseline - which is normally whatever you salt mixes to out of the bucket,, you need to either do more water changes or dose Alk and other macro elements.

Natural seawater does not have Alkalinity as high as you are measuring. It is normally 7-8dkH.

PH is very acceptable. I’m curious on the alkalinity of the seawater though, it appears a tad higher than I would expect.

My alkaline has been increasing rapidly over the last two weeks. Week before last it was at 6.4 and has gone up each day. I have been adding corals and added two fish recently.

Ok, silly question time, you are topping the tank up with Freshwater for evaporation, not saltwater?

When tank water evaporates I top up with RO water. I drew a line in the tank and when it evaporates to that line I know to top up

Okie dokie, what test are you using for Alkalinity? You wouldn’t be the first person to be reading the results upside down.

I use the hanna checker. All other tests are done using salifert. I was thinking of dosing calcium which should bring the alkalinity down…?

Thats interesting, because Alkalinity cannot increase unless you are adding something

Your numbers are satisfactory and Keeping them stable will be key.
let your coral and test kits talk to you.
If theyre happy and test results are good, change nothing. If reverse, then react.

I do feed a lot, have recently done a water change, added two new fish and a few corals.

Nah, there’s something else going on here. From the information you’ve supplied so far it appears the hanna checker is playing games with you.
