I’m working on drawing up some ideas for a 60 gal hex I acquired. There are no holes drilled currently, and I’m trying to figure out the overflow. Do I need to drill the tank for this or are there options for a no-drill overflow?

There are hang on back overflow boxes that operate on a siphon. Lifereef is supposed to have one of the better models.

After ruining a wood floor with multiple overflows using that system, I'd never use one again. IMO, drilling will be the better option...

I used the hang-on overflows for the better part of 20 years and never had an issue with them (outside of being a bit noisy but a "gurglebuster" helped in that regard quite a bit). With that said, drilling the glass on our 75g was so easy I was bummed I hadnt done it sooner.

Hang on overflows are just so 2005. As long as the tank isn’t tempered grinding holes isn’t hard. Use plenty of water to cool the bit and take your time.
