I was at a LFS and the guy told me that I need to feed the coral. They had this solution , I forget the name, but he said that the coral would get these from the water. I always thought that softies got their food via photosynthesis? And that solution was expensive too..

I've been keeping soft corals for a long time and IMO the only thing softies need is regular water changes, decent flow and good light.

Soft coral is pretty broad, but I cannot think of any off the top of my head that benefit from direct feeding. Sounds like the LFS was just trying to make money off you. The only coral I feed directly are acans, favia, chalice, etc... coral that actually has feeder tentacles (not sweepers) that come out.

Do some research on the exact type of coral you have, but yeah, agreed with the above, some corals are photosynthetic while others need actual feeding, so your guy might not have known which kind of coral you were talking about.

There are Nonphotosynthetic corals!! please make sure that you havent puchased 1 as they really need expert care and a tank set up for their needs.

I never feed my soft corals (I don't have any NPS corals). Feed your fish (poo) and your corals will grow. My xenia, zoa, paly, kenya, shooms, are growing like weed.
