I've cycled & am ready to add my 1st fish. Is it necessary to quarenteen the 1st fish to go into the tank?
I have some hermits, an emerald green crab & snail already in the tank. Thx!

This is where opinions come into play. Lots of opinions.

Some manage disease and some proactively treat for it. Both ways can work.

Best to decide the path you want to take and go from there. Multiple choices for either direction as well.

Myself, I QT all of my fish and do a hybrid ttm method. This works for me, but may not work for others who do not have the time I have available for my tanks/critters.

I suggest reading up on treatment and reading up on activly managing it. From there, you can at least be informed in the decision you choose to make.

This is a decision best made by research rather than asking people. Quarantine practices are a personal choice and will get all sorts on answers on here.

This is presuming you are planning to quarantine future purchases too. In which case, yes. If you think about it, if the first fish dies of disease in your main tank then you have to keep your main tank fallow for a LONG while, or treat it and that may not be fun for your crabs and snails. Even if not for the current live stock, then treatments can result in significant declines in nitrifier numbers, thus 'uncycling' your tank at least somewhat. So you don't want to quarantine your first fish in your main tank.

I didn’t quarantine my fishes when I first started. Until that day I picked up the blue tang and my tank now has ich. Lost half my fishes, rush out to buy a 55 gallon breeder tank to treat the survivors. I went 90 days fish less in my display tank to eradicate all ich. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had. Now I quarantine 30 days with copper to all my fishes, clean up crew and corals just goes in.
